”For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6 KJV
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
The time of year when everyone seems to be filled with joy and anticipation for the coming holidays.
But for some, this time of year can be quite difficult.
Whether it be an overloaded schedule, pressure to fulfill every desire for our families, or maybe heartbreak.
Let me be honest.
This time of year is my absolutely favorite! I love the holiday season.
I love giving and seeing the expressions on faces when something new and unexpected is received.
I love the decorations, sweet treats, and heartwarming holiday movies.
I love seeing magnificent light displays, singing Christmas songs, and engaging in family traditions.
All of this fills my heart!
However, there’s something behind the scenes of it all.
Chaos. Stress. Anxiety.
As much as I love the holidays, I have found myself getting so wrapped up in all the festivities that it consumes me.
Spending hours online trying to find the best deals, best recipes, and trying to find just the right gift for each person causes excitement but also anxiety.
Do I have what it takes to try this new recipe? Can I afford the numerous presents I have made a list to purchase with rising costs? Is this the perfect gift? Will he/she like it?
Meeting with friends, family, and attending parties is so much fun but it can also be overwhelming.
What time is the party? When am I meeting with my friend again? Oh wait, isn’t his/her birthday this week too? What about that Dr. appointment? Will the kids have time to nap? Should I bring extra snacks?
Family gatherings fill hearts but can also bring sadness when remembering a loved one that can’t be around.
These are just some of the things that have gone through my mind during the holidays.
Have you felt the same way?
You’re not alone.
This year as I’ve found myself getting overwhelmed, I felt God calling me to something greater.
He was calling me to REMEMBER.
Remember the true meaning of Christmas.
There’s one song that brings me back to remembrance this time of year. “Mary, Did You Know”.
As the song plays, I am filled with such joy! Mary was called to birth the Great I Am.
Can you imagine how she must have felt?
How wonderful it must have been to hold the savior of the whole world!
This song helps me remember that Christmas is the time of year we celebrate Jesus’ birth.
He is our Savior! Without His birth, we would have no Savior.
”Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, And they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.“
Matthew 1:23 KJV
Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy because of CHRIST!
We are free because of Him!
So I encourage you today to remember the freedom we have in Jesus! To remember that His birth marks the birth of the Holy One that saved us.
He is the one that guides us, gives us peace, and is all that is good!
Find rest in Him today during this chaotic time of year. He is always with us and He will help us every step of the way.
”Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 KJV
Come, let us adore Him!
Merry Christmas!!!
