It’s Not Your Job

Do you ever feel pressure to make sure all the boxes are checked according to what other people think?

Here are some examples of what I mean.

Do you feel you need to go to college because that’s what others say you have to do?

Do you feel you need to finish college before marrying the love of your life?

Do you feel you need to get married right away? Have kids right after marriage?

Do you feel you need to be at the top of your career before you think about starting a family?

Do you feel you need to buy a house before you start trying to have children?

Do you feel you need to send your children to the best private school?

Do you feel you need to control the amount of kids you have to make others feel more comfortable?

Do you feel you and/or your spouse need to make 6 figures before you can feel accomplished?

Do you feel you need to discipline your kids the way you were disciplined in order to show others that you are a “good parent” or that you are “in control” of your kids?

Do you feel the need to be perfect in order to succeed in life or your walk with God?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, and feel pressure to do it all in order to prove to others that you are doing ok in life or prove your worth, you need to realize it’s not your job.

It’s not your job to make sure others feel comfortable with your status in life.

It’s not your job to prove to others that you are doing well in life.

It’s not your job to please anyone but God.

This post is inspired by my own experiences (as are most of my posts).

I have answered yes to most of these questions. More than anything I have felt more pressure than ever before after having my first child.

People were astounded when I chose to be a stay-at-home mom. And even more shocked when I chose to homeschool.

My life plan didn’t include either of these! But God. He has a greater plan!

My husband and I have yet to buy our own home and are still living in a smaller space than we started out wanting, but it has taught us so much.

There are days when people pile on to me their opinions. I have carried that weight for so long and it has fed my anxiety and lowered my self-esteem.

After coming back from a family trip, I realized just how much I was letting the opinions of others affect my life and mental health.

God gave me a revelation as I stood in the bathroom thinking of what I’m thankful for.

He made me realize that it doesn’t matter! The only thing that matters is Him. He has a plan!

The Bible says that God will

“equip you with every good thing to carry out His will and strengthen you [making you complete and perfect as you ought to be], accomplishing in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”

Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭21‬ ‭AMP‬‬

It is not my job to make sure other people feel comfortable about my choices because only I will have to deal with the outcomes.

Although I still struggle in these areas, God is slowly bringing me to a better place. He is teaching me, growing me, helping me heal.

God is in control.

We all need to ask ourselves are we making choices based on our own desires or the opinions of others? Or are we seeking out God’s desire for us?

Time and time again God has blessed me and my family. Miracles upon miracles. I know His plan is greater. Even when others are silently judging or openly telling us what they want for us, I just stand strong and remember what God thinks of me.

Let this be an encouragement to you today.

It’s not your job to take on the pressure. It’s your job to seek and trust God. Let Him take care of you.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬ ‭KJV‬‬
