We Are Human

Ever had one of those days where you feel like you’re failing at everything?

Let me tell you, I have had multiple days like this.

At the end of the day (or even throughout the day), I criticize myself for what I did wrong. Cleaned too much. Didn’t play with the kids enough. Yelled at my kids today. Forgot to kiss my husband goodbye. Forgot to fold the laundry the night before.

These all may seem like silly reasons to feel like a failure, but in a stay-at-home mom’s world, this can be the scale by which we judge ourselves.

What about the days when you feel like everything is going right?

Got the dishes done early. Played with the kids. Kissed the hubby goodbye. Spent time studying God’s Word. These moments can feel like such an accomplishment!

I read a devotional recently that described that on the days we feel “holy” and then fail, it’s a reminder that we are human and we need God.

“for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Only God can truly encourage us during the times we feel like we’re failing.

Yes, we can seek comfort in family, friends, and even therapists. However, the One that remains constant is God. God is the One that is always with us.

“…for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God uses these times to encourage us and will use our shortcomings to mold us into His image, drawing us closer to Him.

“And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.”

2 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭18‬ ‭AMP‬‬

An important thing to remember when having good or bad days is that Christ is our source of life. If we seek Him, we will continue to grow. He will continually be our Strength, Provider, and Comforter.

“ I am the true Vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that continues to bear fruit, He [repeatedly] prunes, so that it will bear more fruit [even richer and finer fruit].”

John‬ ‭15‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Christ is our “vine” and we are the “branches”. If we continue to call on Him and follow His Word, we will bear good fruit.

“But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature together with its passions and appetites.”

Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭22‬-‭24‬ ‭AMP‬‬

So on these days when we feel like we’ve failed, we can find encouragement in knowing that Christ will help us overcome obstacles and use these moments to strengthen us and reveal in us things that need some pruning.

And on the days when we feel like we’ve been doing well, let’s remember that Christ is our source.

Here’s to having better days, remembering that we are human, and seeking the One that is always there to encourage us!
