Strong Tower

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.”

Proverbs‬ ‭18‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

What, or who, do you rely on?

Merriam Webster defines rely : “1. to be dependent, 2. to have confidence based on experience”.

Who do you depend on when things get tough? Who do you place your confidence in when you need to vent?

I realized that even though I believe God is my provider and refuge, that I was running to my husband more and more with my worries.

Every time I felt afraid, down, or overwhelmed, I confided in my husband looking to him for comfort. After all, he is my best friend.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with confiding in your spouse or taking comfort in knowing they will be there for you whenever you need them, but they shouldn’t be the first person we run to.

The Bible tells us that we should put our trust in the Lord.

”Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding.”

Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬ ‭AMP‬

Though we may feel like our spouse knows us better than anyone else, they don’t. God does. And He wants us to come to Him boldly. He promises to give us help in our time of need.

”Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment].”

Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭16‬ ‭AMP‬‬

It’s also important not to lose focus on who is the one that holds us all together.

If you find yourself going to your husband, calling a friend, or even consulting Google BEFORE you’ve brought your concerns to God, it might be time to change things up a bit.

I have found that when I run to people or other things before brining my concerns to God, that I feel better for a time, but I still feel a sense of uneasiness. I feel guilty for laying my burdens on others or I feel like my world is ending when Google pulls up search results.

However, when I run to God, I feel an overwhelming sense of peace. So much so that I don’t feel the weight of worry, rather a confidence that everything will be ok.

  1. Excellent wisdom! Yes, Jesus must be our Everything! It takes a lot of pressure off our spouse or best friend to fill our needs.
    Love you, sharing your thoughts!
