“Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the Lord, The fruit of the womb a reward.”
– Psalms 127:3 AMP
I wanted to focus this post on the fact that children are blessings from the Lord.
This post is for the families who are ridiculed for having an abundance of children.
This post is for the mom who is being judged for not pursuing her career to prioritize her family.
This post is for parents who collectively decide that homeschooling is the best option despite a loss in income and criticism from others questioning how their children will be socialized.
This post is for the couple that wrestles with the decision to start a family despite the negative advice from others regarding the cost of children.
We live in a day and age where growing big families is frowned upon – Where people frown upon mothers staying home to take care of their children and educate them.
Our culture and society has changed. In some areas, it has changed for the better. In others, not so much.
In any case, we must not forget God’s truth: CHILDREN ARE A GIFT.
I’m writing this today to tell you that you are not alone. Amongst so many others, I am right there with you.
I struggle with having to experience negative reactions from outsiders when telling them we are a homeschooling family.
I have wrestled with telling my family of another pregnancy for fear of how they would react.
I have felt inadequate because I’m not monetarily rich, yet I want more kids despite the cost.
When I remember all of these instances, I can’t help but feel hopeful when comparing them to what the word of God says about children. The truth.
We are blessed with our children. God has given these precious gifts to us but also the responsibility and honor to raise them with the knowledge of Him and His love.
God is using you to help them and He is using them to help you. This is part of the reward!
I can tell you from experience that God has revealed areas of my life that need changing through my parenting. Working on these things has drawn me closer to God and has helped me see Him in a new light.
Our job is to follow God’s will and avoid conforming to the world.
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
– Romans 12:2 NKJV
If God has called you to parenthood, staying at home with your children, homeschooling, or blessed you with a large, growing family, it doesn’t matter what anyone else says or thinks!
Yes, it is easier said than done for some people. I should know! I am that person who has a hard time accepting that some people won’t agree with me and that it’s not my job to convince them of my decisions.
However, I have seen the change God has made in me when I stand my ground and remember that God has each of us on our own path – and they are all different.
I know no matter what opposition you face, with God on your side, you can do anything! You should be proud of the path He has you on and what He’s doing in your life. Believe that God knows the path that is best for you – not anyone else. He has called us to different and GREATER things.
“Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
– Mark 9:23 NKJV
I hope you are encouraged today to focus on the gift and honor God has given you by entrusting you with every one of your children rather than societal pressures and “norms”.
May God bless you and your families and remember:
Be bold. Be courageous. Be different. Stand up for the truth!
